Karaikal Chlorates

Karaikal Chlorates (Unit of MEPCO Industries Ltd.) is engaged in the manufacture of Potassium Chlorate (Match Grade) in India for more than two decades. The Company runs its own gas power plant to meet its power requirement.

Potassium Chlorate is used in the manufacture of Safety Matches, Dyes and specified Fireworks.

The Company is promoted by Pandian Chemicals Limited and Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd., owned by Government of Tamil Nadu.

Karaikal Chlorates Potassium Chlorate plant is situated at Melakasakudy Village of Karaikal District in the Union Territory of Pondicherry, India.

  • I. Corporate Social Responsibility Policy of the Company :
    • i.The Board has formed a CSR Committee comprising of following Directors :
      • Thiru S.Annamalai – Vice Chairman
      • Thiru G.Athipathy – Director
      • Thiru D.Manoharraj – Managing Director
    • ii. Based on CSR Committee recommendation, the Board directs following activities to be undertaken towards CSR Policy for the financial year ended 31.3.2015 :
      • a) Contribution to the funds set up by Central and State Governments for socio economic development and for relief works
      • b) Medical Camps to be conducted in the village in which the Company’s factory is situated.
      • c) Providing assistance to old age homes / Orphanages to eradicate hunger and poverty.
      • d) To promote the cause of education, contribution to be made to educational institutions approved by Income-tax Department under Section 80G of Income-tax Act.
      • e) Any other activity falling under Schedule – VII of Companies Act, 2013 recommended by CSR Committee.
    • iii. Board has approved a budget of 2% of the average net profit of three preceding financial years to fund above five CSR activities.

    • 6. In case the company has failed to spend the two per cent of the average net profit of the last three financial years or any part thereof, the company shall provide the reasons for not spending the amount in its Board report :

      The Company had placed work orders of value Rs.19.26 lakhs for setting up Computer Centre, improving infrastructure facilities at Jawaharlal Nehru Govt. Higher Secondary School, Nedungadu of Karaikal District. The amount not disbursed during the year ended 31.3.2015 was due to non completion of the work by contractors
